Clark Joseph – Minister of Music

Clark Wayman Joseph is the Minister of Worship & Creative Arts here at the St. John Church. This Lafayette, LA native and father of three sons has loved music since as long as he can remember.

His musical journey began at age 6 when he started learning to play the piano. Clark later went on to earn a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Clark didn’t stop there! He went on to receive his Master of Science in education from Fordham University in New York.

It was in New York that Clark really began to flourish in his gifts, landing a job with the New York City Board of Education as School Administrator. During his time in New York, he began his work in the church starting in 1990 at Merrick Park Baptist Church. In 1996 Clark Joseph felt it time to make a change, this time he came on board the St. John Church Staff, leading the entire music ministry to new heights.

But Clark’s musical journey and accomplishments extend far beyond the walls of the St. John Church. He has traveled throughout the U.S., Africa, and Europe, conducting workshops and seminars. Since 2006, he has been a guest lecturer at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology in the Sacred Music Division.

Not only is he a minister of music, clinician, and teacher, Clark is also a published songwriter! His compositions have been recorded with the GMWA Mass Choir, GMWA National Men’s Choir, the Northern California Chapter of GMWA and the Modern Day Music Ministry Conference. And in 2004, the St. John Music Ministry along with one of Clark’s songs was featured on Integrity Gospel’s Mega Church Gospel: An Explosion of Praise CD featuring the music ministries of churches across the country including The Potter’s House in Dallas, Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York City and Lakewood Church in Houston.

Clark’s favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1-3, how befitting for a man whose job and mission is to lead others in ministering the good news of Jesus Christ through song.

“I will bless the Lord at all times and His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord and the humble shall hear thereof and be glad. Oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together.”
